Wednesday's Weekend Wishlist

Here's what I'm hoping to see from college football this weekend. Well, not literally see, as I'll be in another country. So I guess "here's what I'm hoping to read about on Sunday" in a sick, demented, cold, logical "we want Penn State in the Rose Bowl" way.

  • Wisconsin over Iowa: With Penn State's win over Wisconsin, Penn State owns all tiebreakers over them. However, in a three way tie for first with PSU-WIS-MICH, Wisconsin's presence makes Michigan drop out (due to nonconference record) and then Penn State wins the head-to-head. Plus Barry Alvarez is a nice guy, and it'd be nice for Wisconsin to make a decent bowl.

  • Northwestern over Ohio State: Need OSU to drop behind us in order to make the Michigan State game irrelavent. Wouldn't that be a nice present.

  • Michigan State over Minnesota: You want Michigan State fighting for bowl eligibility at home versus Penn State fighting for the Big Ten championship? Yah. Me neither.

  • Cal over USC: Yah, this one's easy.

  • Alabama over LSU: But this one's not. You'd think that a Penn State fan should be rooting for LSU to take down another unbeaten, but not this one. LSU in most polls is bizarrely ranked above Penn State, even though their wins/losses really don't support that ranking. But the polls always have "inertia" for teams' placement - if LSU wins, they're not going to go down. They're going to go up. Even though with a win, they still don't really deserve a #3 spot. Root for Alabama, then root for Auburn in the next week. Otherwise there's no way LSU doesn't stay above PSU.

I'm not stupid enough to think that Kansas might beat Texas.

On the "nice guy" side, I'd be happy if Ohio State did win out, assuming we beat Michigan State. I think from this year's Big Ten, we deserve two teams in the BCS, absolutely. Ohio State is certainly more deserving of a BCS at-large bid than a team like Oregon, that's for sure.

I agree with all of those, but part of me thinks that if MSU loses this week, they will be completely deflated and won't be able to bounce back against us.

Really really cheer for Northwestern and Wisconsin, then. It'd be nice to not have to worry how well MSU plays. :)
